Inspired

Raphael. The School of Athens

I adore my Survey of Western Art II teacher.
I had her first quarter for the first half and fell in love with her spirit.
She is not only knowledgeable beyond belief, but she's
witty, charming, understanding, compassionate, etc etc

She brought up some interesting points today. One being that she personally believes that Raphael's paintings in the Stanze della Segnatura which is located in the Vatican in Rome can equal that of Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel if not be superior and be considered the greatest work of Western Art.  Quite the statement but Raphael was a dynamic man who did marvelous works of art.

Also a fun side note.

During the Renaissance hygiene was still a bit iffy, not really the cleanest of times. It's noted that Michelangelo was a fan of wearing leather pants, and wore them for quite some time. When he took off the pants an entire layer of skin came off with them due to the sweating and drying over a period of time.

The more you know! :)
