I've been dubbed as being labeled 'indie'. Now I don't really see myself in that way, and here's why.
While I do enjoy the obscure movies, music, lifestyle, I'm really not 'indie'. While my glasses, love of semi nerdy things, coffee obsession, general interests may lean towards being stereotyped that, I'm really not. I don't dress in a typical 'indie' fashion, in fact I'm quite classic. I like simple pieces mixed from all different styles throughout time, more heavily on simple silhouettes of a top, pants, and flats. Quite simple and chic.
This has got me thinking though, why is it so important to categorize people? Why must we classify who people are, what they do/are, how they are alike/different from the rest etc? Is it really that crucial to say to yourself "Oh he/she's clearly _______".
Does it change how you view people? I suppose so, but we are all so much more complex then just a label.
Here are my favorite current actresses in Hollywood with whom which I adore and am always captivated by their work and essence as people. I suppose liking them does put me back in the 'indie' category but pssh.
First, being that I just watched Stranger than Fiction: Maggie Gyllenhaal

Scarlett Johansson

Saving the best for last: Adorable and sweet Natalie Portman
